Socksmith Cares Maiden Voyage, September 2018

Socksmith Cares Maiden Voyage, September 2018

In celebration of our 10 year anniversary, Socksmith launched Socksmith Cares, a charity initiative that gives back to the community.

In order to raise funds for the causes that are close to our hearts, we harnessed the power of both our retail and wholesale divisions, and held a promotional event this September. Through this event, we raised $60,310! And since we have a lot of love for a lot of organizations, we split this money between 24 charities - all selected by Socksmith team members. Each of these charities has a strong connection to a Socksmith employee.

Socksmith Cares was created not just to benefit these fantastic charities, but also to empower our employees, by enabling them to donate to the causes that have made an impact in their own lives.

In hearing the reasons why each team member made their selection, the passion for these organizations shines through. It also put some great charities on the radar for the rest of us!

“St Jude just does everything right. No family pays a dime for the treatment of their child, and St Jude shares all of their research with the public. They do lots of fun activities for their patients to help them still be kids.”

“Peace of Mind Dog Rescue specializes in meeting the needs of senior dogs and senior people. They provide foster homes and adoption services for senior dogs and dogs with medical needs that are often difficult to place in traditional rescue. They also often take in dogs who have outlived their owners or whose owners are facing major medical challenges.”

“I chose it because I've lost two friends to drug addiction and they both started using in their teens. I haven't seen an addiction recovery center geared specifically toward younger people, and I think it's important to have that. They also focus on erasing the stigma of mental health and addictive disorders, which makes it easier to seek out help when people need it.”

Giving is always rewarding, and channeling donation efforts toward the enterprises that have made a direct impact on one’s life is giving at its best. From local churches, to nationwide organizations such as The Michael J Fox Foundation, we recognize the powerful deeds being performed.

In November, 2017, Socksmith raised over $40,000 for Americares’ Hurricane Relief Fund, which was parlayed into over $800,000 in assistance and aid through Americares’ partners. Socksmith Cares’ premier event topped the Hurricane Relief effort by raising $60,310!

Like it says in the title of this piece, this fundraising event is only the beginning. Under the Socksmith Cares name, we look forward to hosting future events that maximize our power as a business and a family, for the community.

“Giving back never stops. There is always a need in the community. Creating new ways to help is a necessity and something we’re passionate about,” says Eric Gil, Socksmith Founder.
