What's Inside
A Wildlife Nonprofit Partner With Real Impact
In 1987, there were only 22 California Condors left in existence. Today, thanks to decades of coordinated endangered species recovery efforts—including reintroductions led by Ventana Wildlife Society—the wild condor population in central California has grown to over 100.
Ventana Wildlife Society’s work includes:
Releasing captive-bred birds into protected wild habitats
Reducing lead poisoning through hunter education
Vaccinating the flock against disease
Monitoring and tracking the population to guide recovery strategies

Condor Chicks Signal Progress in 2024
In 2024, their team celebrated a record-breaking nine wild chicks successfully raised in the wild—proof that these efforts are making a measurable difference.
Watch one of these chicks thrive in the wild:
Condor Credentials
Wingspan: Up to 10 feet
Lifespan: Up to 60 years in the wild
They’re one of the world’s rarest bird species
Every bird in today’s population is descended from the 22 condors rescued in 1987

Why Saving the California Condor Matters
🦅 They’re critically endangered – At one point, only 22 condors remained in the world.
🌎 They play a key role in the ecosystem – As scavengers, condors help clean up the environment and prevent the spread of disease.
🧬 They’re a conservation success story in progress – Every condor alive today is part of a carefully managed effort to bring the species back.
🏔️ They’re native to California – These birds once soared across the western U.S. and are an iconic part of the region’s natural heritage.
🧑🔬 Their survival depends on us – Without continued intervention, threats like lead poisoning and habitat loss could erase decades of progress.
