Rick Griffin is an American artist, and if you're not familiar with the name, we're sure you'll recognize his work! Some of his masterpieces include album covers for the Grateful Dead, Neil Young, and The Cult, and he was one of the leading designers of psychedelic posters in the 1960s.
"All of the best artwork is accidental. It happens when the artist works through his self control and goes beyond, into the realm of the unexpected and the unknown. That’s when the great stuff happens."
- Rick Griffin
Rick grew up in LA in the 50’s, reading and collecting comic books and watching Disney. For vacations, he, his parents and his older brother would venture on long-distance trips, and Rick would fill the time by reading comic books.
Rick’s dad was an amateur archaeologist, so, Rick would go on digs with their dad at the Indian Reservations and old Ghost Towns, discovering Native American and old western artifacts. Those trips, the exposure to those old relics, and Rick’s love of comic books would end up having a huge influence on him and his art.
Like many others, the design team at Socksmith are huge fans of Rick Griffin, and this collaboration is one we're most proud of!
